Multiplier event in Berlin and the last Transnational Project Meeting
(08/09.12.2022) Multiplier event in Berlin and the last Transnational Project Meeting. On December the 8th and 9th 2022 the last multiplier event and the Transnational Project Meeting of the project took place in Berlin. Effort team, together with other stakeholders, had the chance of discussing the results. The EFFORT project caught the attention of several stakeholders and several sustainability and responsibility related topics were discussed in workshops and talks. Similarly, EFFORT team discussed paths to follow.


Multiplier Event in BILBAO
Multiplier event in Spain. On October the 27th the second multiplier event of the project took place in Bilbao. The conference entitled “IKD i3 Jendartea 2022: el desarrollo de la estrategia IKD i3 para enfrentar nuevos retos (EFFORT Erasmus +)” addressed the issue of innovative teaching formats and CSR/Sustainability by presenting the Intellectual Outputs and related topics of the EFFORT project. The project caught the attention of several stakeholders

Multiplier Event in Italy - get involved!
On October the 21st the first multiplier event of the project will be held in the amazing scenario of the “Fiera del Levante” in Bari. The conference titled “Investire nella sostenibilità: formazione, infrastrutture e servizi” will address the issue of education and training as drivers for sustainable development with particular reference to territorial services and will give the opportunity to present the Intellectual Outputs of the EFFORT project. Transnational Project Meeting (BGE - Budapest)
EFFORT members enjoyed a transnational project meeting hosted by BGE University of Budapest. Several intellectual outputs as well as other aspects such as dissemination issues were discussed. It was great to have the chance of sharing opinions and visitBudapestin the final stages of the project.

9th Responsible Management Education Research Conference
EFFORT member Cristian Loza Adaui chaired a track on “Effectiveness and quality measurement of programs and courses of education for responsible leadership and sustainable development” in the context of the 9th Responsible Management Education Research Conference at the MCI The Entrepreneurial School in Innsbruck Austria. During this track EFFORT members, Silke Bustamante and Martina Martinovic presented a paper entitled: “Predictors of responsible behavior – development of a behavioral model as basis for teaching effectiveness measurement” based on some intellectual outputs of the EFFORT Project.
Meeting - DACH chapter
EFFORT members Silke Bustamante and Cristian Loza Adaui, presented the EFFORT Project during the Meeting of the DACH Chapter of the UN Principles of Responsible Management Education in the city of Innsbruck, Austria. During this meeting also some ideas for further exploitation and sustainability of the intellectual outputs of the EFFORT project were presented and discussed.

EFFORT project’s EffSET (EFFORT Self-Assessment Tool) is fully ready to use! Besides the ENGLISH version, you can also download in EFFORT’s webpage (here) the GERMAN, SPANISH, ITALIAN, HUNGARIAN and FINNISH versions. You will find also the User’s Guidelines.
EffSET is a qualitative and quantitative instrument developed with the aim of providing Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and instructors of an instrument that enables the classification and the analysis of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability related courses and teaching concepts according to different criteria.

Best Paper Award candidate (HEAd '22)
The paper on “Fostering Key Competencies for Sustainability: Development of a Higher Education Teaching Format based on Service Design" authored by EFFORT team members Silke Bustamante, and Martina Martinovic, as well as by Thomas Afflerbach has been selected as best paper award candidate for the HEAd conference 2022. Fingers crossed!

Transnational Project Meeting (UPV/EHU -BILBAO)
UPV/EHU University hosted the transnational meeting EFFORT members attended in Bilbao (Spain) in June 2022. Future Scenarios for Sustainable Business Solutions
This teaching format is designed to introduce participants to scenario development and futures studies; develop visions/scenarios of respective futures, evaluate, and implement them in line with sustainable development, and consider our current social/environmental challenges.
Trainer: Marina Schmitz Marina Schmitz serves as a researcher and lecturer at the Coca-Cola Chair of Sustainable Development at IEDC Bled School of Management, Slovenia. She worked for several years as a project manager, research associate, and lecturer at the Center for Advanced Sustainable Management (CASM) at CBS International Business School, Germany.
Engaging for Sustainability
The teaching format aims at engaging students to contribute to achieving the sustainability goals set in the Agenda 2030. It combines small lecturing inputs, reflection tasks and a project work brought in by an external partner (company, NGO, start-up) using the service design methodology.
Trainer: Silke Bustamante Silke Bustamante is the coordinator of the EFFORT Project, Professor for (Responsible) Management, and Vice president for Sustainability, Student Advisory Services and Communications at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, Germany.
Trainer: Martina Martinovic Martina Martinovic is a research associate at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, Germany, at the Department of Cooperative Studies. Currently, she is doing her doctorate in business administration. Her research interests comprise especially responsible leadership, corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability in education as well as sustainable consumption.
Innovation and Technology for Sustainable Future
This teaching format explores the role of technology and innovation in sustainable development by applying a theater-based teaching approach into STEM education. The teaching format is designed to enable participants to start sensemaking among uncertainty by combining creative and analytical skills to create visions and inspire action for the future.
Trainer: Ellen Saltevo Ellen Saltevo is a junior researcher at Lappeenranta University of Technology, LUT School of Engineering Science, Finland. She is currently conducting her doctorate degree in technology with research interests on sustainable system innovations and their effective implementation.

5th follow up meeting
(1-2 of February, 2022) EFFORT members enjoyed the 5th follow-up meeting hosted by Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro. Several intellectual outputs as well as other aspects such as dissemination issues were discussed. It was great to have the chance of sharing opinions, but due to the COVID situation the meeting took place online.
ISPIM Connects Valencia
EFFORT member Ellen Saltevo presented the work entitled “Effective methods for sustainability and innovation teaching” in the last ISPIM Connects Valencia conference. She presented the teaching format which is being developed at LUT University within the EFFORT project. The Self Evaluation Tool 'EffSET'
Fabio Pizzutilo and Elisabetta Venezia, from the Aldo Moro University in Bari, presented at the International Conference “the 5eme Rencontre du CEDITER” the Self Evaluation Tool, EffSET, that they are developing as part of the Effort project. This has been the first scientific opportunity to present this tool to external peers. CEDITER is a scientific association located in Paris and it is part of an international and multidisciplinary network, whose members intervene in the fields of research, higher education and continuing education and promote territorial actions.

Book published
The book “Corporate Social Responsibility and Employer Attractiveness” has already been published by Springer. EFFORT member Silke Bustamante, Fabio Pizzutilo and Martina Martinovic are among the editors; other EFFORT members were involved in writing chapters. The book investigates the preferences of young job seekers for different aspects of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in comparison to other non-CSR related employer attributes. Presentation of impact factors and dimensions at RMERC
Silke Bustamante and Martina Martinovic presented and discussed their concept of impact factors for the effectiveness of CSR and sustainability related teaching at the 8th Responsible management education research conference in October 2021. The impact factors will be integrated in the self-evaluation tool “EFFSET”; their influence will be analyzed in the statistal analysis of students’ responses to their sustainability related behavioral intentions that have been measured by means of the Controlling tool.

Inauguration of HWR International Week of Sustainability - Streaming of Keynotes
HWR, the coordinating University of the EFFORT project, organizes a 10 days intensive event on sustainability, the "International Week on Sustainability". For the inauguration of the International Week of Sustainability at HWR, two outstanding keynotes are planned: Luis Jabobs, editorial journalist of ZEIT ONLINE Green, will talk about "Sustainability: How to talk about the biggest challenge of the 21st Century” and Prof. Dr. Angelika Brandt, Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum Frankfurt, will adress “The Future of the Oceans and the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development”. Participation in the 23rd National Congress of the Associazione Italiana di Valutazione (AIV)
Elisabetta Venezia and Fabio Pizzutilo from the University of Bari (UNIBA) discussed the paper "EffSET, autovalutazione della sostenibilità e della responsabilità sociale delle Università: prime applicazioni" at the 23rd National Congress of the Associazione Italiana di Valutazione (AIV). The paper illustrates the very first simulation results of EffSET, the self-evaluation tool, that UNIBA team is developing as part of the EFFORT project.
A fruitful discussion followed. Great interest in the tool was showed by the participants.
The annual national congress represents one of the most important moments of the associative life of AIV, where issues of particular relevance and topicality in the field of performance evaluation are debated between actors from different expertise (researchers, academics, decision makers, public sector, managers, professionals, etc.).

Transnational project meeting (LUT University)
LUT University hosted the transnational meeting EFFORT members attended in Lappeenranta (Finland) in September 2021. It was a fruitful meeting which took place in a beautiful setting. Several intellectual outputs as well as other aspects such as dissemination issues were discussed. It was great to have the chance of sharing opinions face to face again.

Congratulations to Fabio Pizzutilo and Elisabetta Venezia, from the University of Bari Aldo Moro, on recently publishing their paper “On the maturity of social responsibility and sustainability integration in higher education institutions: Descriptive criteria and conceptual framework“ in the International Journal of Management Education, one of the leading journals in higher education studies. The paper and developed framework are linked to the IO3 intellectual output of the Erasmus+ EFFORT project.

Participation in the 2nd International Conference “Reinventing Education” organised by Scuola Democratica
Fabio Pizzutilo and Elisabetta Venezia, from the University of Bari Aldo Moro, on June the 3rd 2021 discussed the paper “Assessing Social Responsibility Integration in Higher Education Institutions” at the 2nd International Conference “Reinventing Education” organised by Scuola Democratica, the most important Italian journal about education, with the support of other relevant partners and promoters. The Session Chair and the audience showed great interest and appreciation. The criteria of Social Responsibility Maturity Integration in Higher Education Institutions were presented, and the methodology behind the self-evaluation tool was illustrated. In particular, attendees appreciated the topicality of the research, the innovativeness of the approach, and the relevance of the contributions to the existent literature.

Webinar: International Business Webinar Series
Marina Schmitz, Research Associate and Lecturer at the Center for Advanced Sustainable Management (CASM) at CBS International Business School (Cologne, Germany) has sucesfully shared her insights in a webinar on “Tools and Innovative Teaching Formats in Sustainability Education” on February 25th, 2021, co-organized and sponsored by AIB Teaching & Education Shared Interest Group and Georgia State University CIBER.
Marina has shared insights on two Erasmus+ research projects (ISSUE and EFFORT), which are centered around innovative teaching formats in sustainability education at HEIs. Besides that, she introduced (digital) tools and other teaching resources which will increase interactivity in your classroom and improve carbon literacy among your students.
Conference: Academy of Economics and Finance 58th Annual Meeting (Online)
Fabio Pizzutilo and Elisabetta Venezia from the University of Bari Aldo Moro (Italy) discussed their paper entitled “CSR integration in higher education institutions: identification, description and categorization of maturity criteria”, receiving great interest from the audience.
The paper is part of their work for the EFFORT project and a milestone towards the development of the self-evaluation tool (IO3). It presents and discusses the criteria on the basis of which the third expected intellectual output will be delivered from EFFORT
Fourth transnational project meeting (online)
In February 2021, CBS International Business School (Germany) hosted the fourth transnational project meeting. At the two-day online meeting partners discussed project management tasks as well as next steps for dissemination and IO development.

Project Based Learning methodology employed at UPV / EHU by Dr. Unai Tamayo
Unai Tamayo - lecturer at UPV/EHU University and member of EFFORT project - employs a Project Based Learning methodology in his Marketing course. In this sense, students should create a sustainable product or service to improve environmental learning. Two companies have joined today's (Feb. 9th, 2021) session by giving input to students in a case study:
Mr. Aitor Isasi from ZITEK, a company that promotes entrepreneurial projects among young students.
Mr. Jose Luis León Roda from BEE AGRITECH, which is a technology-based new venture that works in the agricultural and beekeeping sector focused on the development of biotechnological products and services. This Start Up is focused on empowering the primary sector.
Questionnaire for testing teaching effectiveness (IO1) finished in December and now ready to use
After several rounds of pre-testing, the questionnaire, that allows testing the impact of CSR and sustainability related teaching on intentions to take responsible decisions, is now ready to use in an English and a German version. Steering committee meeting in December 2020: Approval of first result
The Steering Committee of the EFFORT project met mid of December 2020 to approve the first results of the EFFORT project. Among others, the questionnaire was judged as manageable and easy to handle by respondents.
Call for contributions for handbook will be published in spring 2021
The EFFORT team is currently working on a call for a handbook, which collects innovative teaching formats for responsibility- and sustainability related teaching around the world. Lecturers that are teaching in these domains will be invited to contribute to the handbook by publishing a chapter on their teaching format.

Bachelor project supervised by member of EFFORT received award in November 2020
University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU hosted the third student congress in which students presented their sustainability related Bachelor Degree Final Projects. The project of Xabier Torres on the impact of big data on proactive sustainable strategies and CSR, tutored by Julen Castillo, was awarded first prize.

Day of Hungarian Science 2020 at Budapest Business School (BBS) in November 2020
The program of the scientific conference with the motto Future Shaping Science intended to outline the changes that were brought about by the coronavirus and highlighted its importance and contribution to more sustainable ways of thinking. At the conference two Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership projects of the BBS, ISSUE (Innovative Solutions for SUstainability in Education) and EFFORT (EFFectiveness Of Responsibility Teaching) were presented. EFFORT project partners as CBS, LUT and UPV/EHU actively participated with plenary presentations or in student parallel sections.

Piloting nature-based learning at HWR in November 2020
Within the International Week of Sustainability at HWR, students made a field trip to the forest in order to connect to nature. The concept behind it comes from Japan: "Shinrinyoku" literally means "to take a bath in the forest". Participants should increase the awareness and the consciousness for their surroundings.
Berlin International Week at HWR from 30th October to 11th November
Berlin International Week on Sustainability and Responsibility took place at HWR Berlin for the second time. 25 students across the globe participated in seminars, workshops, field trips and a service design project work. Researchers of EFFORT contributed to the teaching. The controlling tool (IO1) elaborated by the EFFORT team was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the event.
Third transnational project meeting (25. – 26. September) (online)
EFFORT members had to meet online because of travel restrictions and related situations generated by COVID-19. Nevertheless, it was great having the chance to see each other.
Presentation at the PRME chapter DACH meeting
In February 2020, the HWR Effort team presented the project at the PRME chapter DACH meeting in Berlin and suggest modes of collaboration.
HWR piloted the new teaching format "Engagement for Responsibility" (IO5) in autumn 2020
A new teaching format developed within the EFFORT project, that combines Service Design for Sustainabilty with responsibility teaching, has been piloted this autumn and evaluated with the controlling tool. Students enjoyed dealing with sustainability issues from a practical viewpoint while experts from Universities in India, Australia and Germany praised the linkage between theory and practice.

From 6th to 7th September, Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht Berlin (Germany) hosted the first transnational partner meeting. Partners successfully kicked-off the EFFORT project and discussed first steps for the partnership.
